Stock adjustments that do not add up
Unfulfilled laybys, deliveries, and receipts still open when you count create the biggest EOFY stock errors and unnecessary write-offs.
Retail Express
Retail Express helps Australian and New Zealand retailers close the financial year with confidence. Clear operational prep, the right reports at the right time, inventory valuation you can export, and stocktake as the final step.
Common pain points
Unfulfilled laybys, deliveries, and receipts still open when you count create the biggest EOFY stock errors and unnecessary write-offs.
Running the wrong report type, or at the wrong time, leaves you with figures your bookkeeper cannot reconcile to your accounting ledger.
Without a clear valuation snapshot and verification reports, inventory on your balance sheet may not match what Retail Express shows at year-end.
Retail Express
Before any count, complete fulfilments for goods that left the store, process stock receipts for goods already arrived, finish transfers between locations, and raise supplier returns for stock going back. Stocktake is the last step in the EOFY chain, not the first.

Most Retail Express reports are live and reflect the moment you click Search. For EOFY, run live inventory and valuation reports after close on your year-end date (for many Australian retailers that is 30 June / before opening 1 July; New Zealand teams should use the cut-off agreed with their accountant), then export to Excel. Accounting Reports use immutable static balances for accrual reconciliation with your accounting package.

Start with the Financial Summary Report for a high-level year-end view, then drill into layby movement, accounts receivable, stock adjustments, stock in transit, fulfilled sales, and related detail reports. Confirm the exact list with your accountant before EOFY.

Use the Inventory Valuation Report with an As At date for historical quantities and costs. Stock Value vs Sales shows live stock levels at run time, so export after month-end or EOFY close to preserve figures. Match Current Value Buy Ex to your inventory account for reconciliation.

Answers for retailers in Australia and New Zealand.
Run live reports after close of business on your financial year-end date, or before opening the next day. For many Australian retailers that is after close on 30 June or before opening on 1 July. New Zealand retailers should confirm their year-end cut-off with their bookkeeper (often different from AU). If your webstore trades 24/7, agree a specific cut-off, then export immediately to preserve the snapshot.
Accounting Reports in Retail Express use immutable static data for point-in-time balances. Most other reports, including Stock Value vs Sales, are live and accurate only at the moment you run them.
After clearing operational backlog. Complete fulfilments, receipts, transfers, and supplier returns first. Stocktake is the last step. Unfulfilled laybys and deliveries are the leading cause of incorrect EOFY stock adjustments.
Start with the Financial Summary Report. Your accountant may also need layby movement, accounts receivable, stock adjustment, stock in transit, fulfilled sales, and voucher reports. Confirm requirements before EOFY.
Yes. The Inventory Valuation Report supports an As At date for historical stock quantities and costs. Stock Value vs Sales is live only, so export at EOFY close to preserve figures.
Run Stock Value vs Sales and compare Current Value Buy Ex to your inventory account. Use Financial Summary and drill-down accounting reports for other balance sheet items. See Xero integration and MYOB integration for sync detail.
Decide before generating stocktake files. Available excludes reserved laybys and deliveries, so staff must not count those units. Stock on hand includes all statuses and everything must be physically counted.
Standard static accounting report guidance may not apply. Accounting Link users in Retail Express should follow Reconciliation Reports guidance for the correct EOFY report list.
